We are seeking to appoint a Quality Assurance Technical Officer to join the growing Quality Assurance (QA) Team at the Clinical BioManufacturing Facility (CBF), Nuffield Department of Medicine.
The Clinical BioManufacturing Facility (CBF) is the University of Oxford’s GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) manufacturing facility, where basic research can be translated into Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) for use in clinical trials. The CBF is a scientific research facility within the Nuffield Department of Medicine, it holds a Manufacturer/Importer (MIA) license from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and presently comprises more than 30 staff. The CBF has manufactured more than 30 novel vaccines for first-in-human studies, as vaccines for infectious disease and cancer therapy and has supported over 100 clinical trials. In April 2020 the CBF produced ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, the UK’s first COVID-19 vaccine to enter clinical trials. Later acquired by AstraZeneca, billions of doses of this vaccine have now been administered worldwide. The CBF has also recently produced vaccines against Ebola, Rabies and Nipah viruses. Currently, the CBF is expanding its GMP manufacturing space to cater for the increasing demand for life-saving research, and the expansion is planned to be operational in a new building by 2028.
You will provide QA support combining your scientific and technical expertise with your knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) and Quality Systems. You will be responsible for assisting with investigations of quality related issues in conjunction with site personnel and help to interpret scientific data and drive all investigations to a timely close out. You will work closely with CBF staff to collate relevant data for investigations and trending. You will also perform root cause and identify suitable Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) that address the root cause of investigations. You will review and approve Quality Management System (QMS) documents such as Deviations, Change Controls and make risk-based decisions in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team to ensure best possible outcome.
It is essential that you hold a degree in a life sciences subject. You must have experience of working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment, with expertise in techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, and basic laboratory assays e.g. pH measurement. You will have experience of working within a Quality Management System, and knowledge and experience of EU GMP or ISO 9001 and how to apply the guidelines.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 36 months, with possibility of extension, and is funded by the department.

Salary (£) : Standard Grade 7: £39,424 - £47,779 with a discretionary range to £51,983 p.a. (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
