Responsibilities
- Conduct research in cardiovascular pharmacology as part of a British Heart Foundation supported project under Dr Charalampos Sigalas.
- Characterise the molecular and cellular effects of RyR2 mutations linked to Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia.
- Investigate the effects of selected drugs on RyR2 channel function and Ca2+-release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum of cardiac myocytes.
- Perform experiments using single-channel recordings of RyR2 reconstituted in artificial lipid bilayers.
- Perform Ca2+-imaging experiments in isolated cardiac myocytes from mouse hearts.
- Manage own academic research and administrative activities, develop new techniques and experimental protocols, test hypotheses, analyse data, and contribute ideas for new research projects.
- Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
Qualifications
- Relevant PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a related field.
- Experience in cardiovascular pharmacology.
- Experience isolating sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles and cardiac myocytes from rodent cardiac muscle.
- Experience performing single-channel reconstitution in artificial lipid bilayers.
- Experience performing Ca2+-imaging in cardiac myocytes.
- Experience managing rodent colonies.
