The post is fixed term/variable hours from 01 September 2026 to 11 June 2027. The Directorate of Academic and Student Administration, in collaboration with the School of Arts and Student Support Services, are currently recruiting for Non Medical Help Support Worker(s) for the 2026‑2027 academic year.
In this role, you will provide ongoing support and mentorship to a Level 3 student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), enabling them to participate fully and successfully in the Foundation Art & Design course. The role is based within the Foundation Art & Design department at Headington Hill Campus, Oxford, and will involve working between 9.00am and 4.30pm across three days per week, Monday to Thursday. Applications from individuals seeking mornings only or afternoons only will be considered. Please note, as this is a Further Education course, this term‑time only role will follow school term dates rather than University semester dates. The successful post holder(s) will commence employment by 1 September 2026 in preparation for student induction on 2 September 2026 and the role will finish on the week ending 12 June 2027.
Your main duty will be to provide guided help within the Art Studio, including moving and carrying objects, creating and displaying work and using equipment in a studio setting. You will assist the student to understand and manage project requirements, acting as a live reader and making notes to support the student’s independent learning. You will also promote understanding and awareness of the needs of disabled students, through supporting participation in group critiques, presentations, exhibitions and portfolio development. You will be required to model professional creative behaviours and studio practices.
You will work closely with Programme and Pathway Leads, and liaise with Additional Learning Support, Student Support Services and other University departments in relation to student support.
Essential Criteria- Degree or equivalent experience, ideally in Art, Design or a related creative discipline
- Ability to work proactively using own initiative, working independently and to deadlines.
- Well organised, reliable, punctual and respect professional boundaries at all times.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally and sensitively, both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to maintain accurate records, stored appropriately, paying close attention to confidentiality agreements.
- Must show a positive attitude towards equality and access for people with disabilities.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with learners.
