The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at Oxford Brookes University provides an intellectually stimulating, friendly and supportive environment in which to work and study. The School has been delivering consistent growth in student numbers over many years, attributed to a highly reputable teaching portfolio and graduate employability. Thus we are looking for an inspirational and talented colleague to join us.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their research in one of the areas described below and get involved in our excellent extracurricular activities. Our success and student experience have been recently enhanced by the move to the Headington Hill campus in the heart of Oxford, featuring a new teaching building and a new industry-standard workshop.
This purpose-built workshop houses a fully equipped machine shop including 3 and 5‑axis CNC machines, the Multimatic 5‑post rig, composites manufacture laboratory, tensile testing laboratory and fluids wing with a new wind tunnel. Furthermore, it features a new suite of two petrol/alternative fuel and two electric dynos, complemented by an adjacent high‑voltage laboratory, equipped for testing battery pouches and full battery packs. The teaching building offers laboratories for electronics, robotics (Boston Dynamics Dog and two ABB robots), GANT computer‑integrated manufacturing demonstrator, dynamics & vibration laboratory and more. We also have a state‑of‑the‑art virtual reality Multiview Cave, 350+ computers and a high‑power computing suite to support modelling and simulation and more. Both the teaching and the workshop building also house an enviable range of recent and historic race vehicles.
The School is also the home to the most successful UK Formula Student team Oxford Brookes Racing, who have enviable dedicated design and manufacture spaces, to design and build an advanced electric racing vehicle. We invite you to apply if you have expertise in mechanical design and CAD/CAM, preferably an experienced user of SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar software modelling, including a very good grasp of technical engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, to join the team.

You will be responsible for:
- Providing teaching on relevant advanced modules on undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes
- Supporting high levels of student achievement and student satisfaction
- Assisting the Head of School in the day‑to‑day management of the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
- Assisting in the implementation of the new programmes and development of new programmes and partnerships
- Assisting in the implementation of university and faculty/school strategies for enhancing the student experience, including the enrichment of teaching and learning by research and professional engagement
- Undertaking administrative duties commensurate with the role of module leader
- Undertaking teaching and research/scholarship in the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
You should have:
- A postgraduate qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- A demonstrable track record of teaching excellence, and a proven track record in research/scholarly activity
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
