Biomedical Services (BMS) supports world‑class research at the University of Oxford by providing expert care for laboratory animals across multiple facilities. Our work is governed by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and is driven by a strong commitment to animal welfare and scientific excellence.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Facility Manager to support the operational management of one of the University of Oxford’s specialist animal research facilities based on the Old Road Campus. This role is ideal for an experienced manager with strong organisational and supervisory skills who is looking to further develop their leadership and facility management experience in a highly regulated scientific environment.

Working closely with the Facility Manager, you will assist in the day‑to‑day running of the facility, supervise technical staff, coordinate procedural work carried out under ASPA, ensure accurate and compliant record keeping, and support the welfare and husbandry of animals within the unit. You will also play a key role in staff development, training, scheduling, operational organisation, and maintaining high standards of animal care and compliance.

Opportunities are available for continuing professional development, including further training in animal technology and welfare. This employment is full‑time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week. The department is committed to supporting and developing our staff and opportunities which staff are encouraged to make the most of to enhance their personal and career development.
