We are looking for aData Coordinator and Bioinformatician to join the Cader Group at NDCN.The Medical Research Council (MRC), in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, NC3Rs and Innovate UK, has invested £15.9 million to support the novel human in vitro disease model clusters (IHDM-C) initiative, which aims to redefine human-based research models for greater understanding of disease and the acceleration of new medicines. As part of this initiative, there will be strategic coordination across five funded clusters to address common challenges in the field.
We are looking for someone who will support data coordination and shared bioinformatics across the network, helping to ensure consistency, interoperability and discoverability through coordination and shared standards. The role will also involve using existing datasets to support the validation and value of developing in vitro models.Key responsibilities will include developing and maintaining shared metadata templates and standards, maintaining a programme-level data catalogue, and establishing shared GitHub resources to support reproducibility and reuse. The postholder will also work with the UKRI Functional Genomics Institute on the analysis of functional genomics datasets and liaise with researchers across partner institutions to support the deposition and linking of data, code and research outputs.
The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree or have equivalent experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, biomedical sciences or a related quantitative discipline, with experience in bioinformatics analysis and/or data engineering of complex biological datasets. They will also have proficiency in a programming or scripting language such as Python or R, with experience of building reproducible analytical workflows.Excellent organisational, collaboration and communication skills are essential, together with the ability to coordinate data-related activities across multiple stakeholders or projects and manage competing priorities. The postholder should also have an understanding of FAIR data principles and awareness of data protection, research governance and ethical requirements in biomedical research data.Desirable experience includes working with functional genomics datasets, such as RNA-seq, single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, and experience with metadata standards, data repositories or research data management workflows. Experience supporting collaborative multi-site research projects or infrastructure programmes, and familiarity with high-performance computing or cloud-based analytical environments, would also be advantageous.
