As a Sous Chef, you’ll support the Executive Head Chef in the day‑to‑day running of the kitchen, helping to deliver exceptional cuisine to around 200 guests each day. From creating beautifully presented dishes and supporting special dietary requirements to training junior team members and maintaining the highest food safety standards, this is an exciting opportunity to grow your career in a professional and rewarding environment.

Main Duties:
  • Assist with the general day‑to‑day running of the kitchen department.
  • Take responsibility for the operation and control of the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Head Chef.
  • Prepare and serve high-quality cuisine to the required standards.
  • Support menu development and contribute fresh, innovative ideas to improve food and drink service.
  • Ensure excellent presentation standards and deliver the “wow factor” for guests.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of menus, ingredients, allergens, and special dietary requirements.
  • Provide suitable menu choices for guests requiring dietary assistance and communicate special requirements to relevant departments.
  • Supervise, motivate, and develop chefs and kitchen team members.
  • Support team training, coaching, and development while setting a positive example.
  • Oversee trial shifts and assist in reviewing performance and suitability for roles.
  • Order and manage stock efficiently while minimising waste and maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure food hygiene, health & safety, and cleanliness standards are consistently maintained.
  • Complete daily check sheets, cleaning schedules, and training records accurately.
  • Report equipment issues, hazards, accidents, and low stock levels promptly.
  • Respond professionally to guest feedback and assist with resolving complaints effectively.
  • Maintain strong communication across departments and support a positive team culture.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in food preparation or professional cookery and Level 2 Hygiene qualifications are desirable.
  • Previous experience within a professional kitchen environment.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergens, and dietary requirements.
  • Passion for fresh, nutritious food and outstanding guest experiences.
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Positive, proactive, and enthusiastic approach.
  • A keen eye for detail and commitment to high standards.
Hours of Work:
  • 39 hours per week worked on a rota basis.
  • £35,753.64 per annum.
