A fixed-term (12 months), full-time position for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Haematology Department at The Halo Building, 1 Mabledon Place, London. The laboratory operates an 8:00am‑9:00pm service; the candidate will be expected to participate in shifts to cover this period, according to departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and separating different types of biological samples for laboratory testing and assisting Biomedical Scientists with routine diagnostics analytical work.
  • Entering patient requests into the pathology computer system, assigning laboratory numbers and carrying out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures.
  • Packaging biological samples for testing at external centres in accordance with handling regulations for biohazard materials.
  • Answering enquiries from health care professionals at the hospital, in the community and patients regarding the specimen type, processing state and expected time frames for laboratory investigations.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience required. Candidates should have computer skills, good verbal and written communication skills, work well in a team and have a flexible approach to workload and task allocation.
  • A standard DBS check is required.
