Hybrid Working: Available while on UoL Campus, but with extended periods of fieldwork in India.

You will work on the properties, mechanisms, and hazards of interplate and intraplate earthquakes in India, a UKRI- and Government of India-funded project that is a partnership between the University of Liverpool and the Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences' Borehole Geophysics Research Laboratory (BGRL) in Maharashtra, India.

Working with Dr Davies, you will develop an educational programme and an associated educational game about earthquake and seismic risk for use in schools and colleges in and around the Karad and Koyna regions of Satara district in Southern Maharashtra. You will support the social science work packages of the wider interdisciplinary project, which is exploring the impacts of past and present earthquakes, with a focus on the relationship between interplate (i.e. located on or near a tectonic plate boundary) and intraplate (i.e. located a significant distance from tectonic plate boundaries) earthquakes.

Data on intraplate earthquakes collected during this project will form the basis of the educational programme to improve real world awareness of seismic hazard and risk in India. You will work closely with colleagues in Liverpool and in India during several field visits, with the aim of co-producing the educational programme with teachers and students in schools and colleges in the region.

This programme will produce a co-designed interactive educational game which will form a pilot/template for application in other regional contexts in India and potentially beyond. You will join the Power, Space and Cultural Change research group within the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Liverpool, as well as working with colleagues in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences.

The PSCC research group is a vibrant group of academic researchers engaged in methodologically and theoretically rigorous research in Human Geography. BGRL is a Ministry of Earth Sciences funded lab station based in Karad, Maharashtra conducting globally significant research on deep-earth geophysics and geology. You will work closely with colleagues at BGRL who will take an active part in delivering the education programme.

We welcome applications from people from backgrounds historically excluded from research institutions, and those who wish to work remotely from a location outside Liverpool (but coming to Liverpool as agreed for research meetings during the course of the postdoc).

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
