The Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) is a leading development economics research centre at the University of Oxford. Its researchers are based across the Department of Economics, the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG), and the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID). CSAE engages with a wide range of stakeholders, including academic development economists, senior policymakers from governments and NGOs, as well as colleagues involved in fieldwork and outreach activities.

CSAE organises four major events each year:

  • A three‑day international conference in March attended by more than 400 participants;
  • A Roundtable for African Central Bank Governors in June;
  • A conference for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in development economics in October;
  • A week‑long international workshop in December, hosted in a different country annually.

In addition, the Centre runs several research programme workshops and meetings throughout the academic year, alongside two active weekly seminar series during term time.

Given the substantial primary data collection required for CSAE research, the Events Coordinator role extends beyond standard event management. Working closely with the Communications Manager and the Projects Officer, the postholder will also support research teams conducting fieldwork. They will serve as the main point of contact for visiting academic collaborators and students. The position reports directly to the Communications Manager and is part of a small, dynamic team primarily based in the Department of Economics.
