About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual who is looking to take that next career step in leadership, as the new Sample Reception Area Head of Department (SRA HOD) at Croxley Park Hub. The Croxley Park Hub is a new HSL Hub laboratory designed to provide a comprehensive pathology service for Hertfordshire and West Essex (HWE) GP, Community providers, and Hospitals.

The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated management, lab support staff, and biomedical scientists in delivering a high‑quality pathology service. We are looking for someone who is positive, proactive, and has attention to detail. Previous experience within pre‑analytics is essential to understand the complexities of specimen pathways and development of sustainable systems of delivery.

The Hub, when fully operational, will process 14,000 samples per day. The ideal candidate will have line management experience preferably within a pathology discipline. This post offers the opportunity to broaden your skills and experience in a busy pathology reception, providing a 24/7 Haematology, Biochemistry, and Infectious Sciences service.

A key role of the HOD is to meet the daily operational demands of the lab. The ability to work under pressure as workloads fluctuate is essential, along with excellent interpersonal skills, being highly organised, and able to identify and delegate to keep operations running efficiently and effectively.

The ideal candidate will need to be adaptable to a changing environment, passionate in supporting teams transferring into a new setting, committed to service excellence, and have a genuine desire for continued personal and professional development.
