We are looking for an experienced and forward‐thinking Payroll & Pensions Manager to lead our high‐quality, compliant and customer‐focused payroll and pensions hub team. As part of our People & Culture Hub Team, you will play a key role in ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time, while overseeing the administration of a wide range of pension schemes including LGPS, NHS and other occupational arrangements.
What you will be doing:
- Leading the end‐to‐end payroll function across multiple companies, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely delivery.
- Managing payroll activity for starters, leavers, contractual changes, statutory payments, overtime, allowances and more.
- Overseeing compliance with HMRC requirements including PAYE, NI, RTI submissions and year‐end processes.
- Leading the governance and administration of multiple pension schemes (LGPS, NHS, auto‐enrolment and TUPE‐inherited schemes).
- Producing accurate management information, assurance reports and analysis.
- Coaching, developing and leading a high‐performing payroll and pensions team.
- Supporting organisational change programmes, restructures, acquisitions and TUPE transfers.
- Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners including HMRC, auditors and pension providers.
What we are looking for:
- You'll bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability and a passion for service excellence.
- Level 5 / Foundation Degree in Payroll Management.
- Significant experience managing payroll in a complex, multi‐company or multi‐site organisation.
- Substantial experience administering multiple pension schemes, including LGPS and NHS.
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, statutory requirements and pension governance.
- Experience leading a payroll team and managing payroll/pension activity linked to TUPE or organisational change.
- Excellent analytical, reconciliation and problem‐solving skills.
- Ability to interpret complex terms and conditions and translate them into accurate payroll and pension processing.
- Highly organised, resilient and able to manage competing priorities.
