Oxford Physics is one of the largest and most eminent departments in Europe – pursuing cutting edge research alongside training the next generation of leaders in physics. The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Deputy Finance Manager in a full-time permanent position. Working closely with the Finance Manager, the Deputy Finance Manager will contribute to the provision of high-quality financial support across the Department. Key responsibilities include financial reporting,budgeting,forecasting,and planning;ensuring financial compliance and supporting decision-making by providing timely and accurate financial information. The post holder will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with university, project funder and Department rules, policies and procedures. The successful candidate should be educated to degree level, with strong accounting knowledge, evidenced by a CCAB accounting qualification or progress to the final stages of qualification. (In exceptional circumstances account may also be taken of skills gained through experience). You will have substantial experience in management accounting and financial reporting, alongside strong analytical and IT skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets and financial systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to work closely with colleagues across the Department and wider University, and to present financial information clearly to a variety of audiences. The successful candidate will be organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities under pressure. Effective at solving complex problems, with tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information, and able to successfully and sensitively introduce change. Willing to learn new skills and processes. This appointment is full-time and permanent.
