Overview
Applications are invited for a Consultant Clinical Scientist post in biochemistry. This is a leadership role within Health Services Laboratories (HSL), where the successful candidate will work with senior management and clinical leads for biochemistry to ensure a high quality service is provided and developed across the organisation. The post holder may deputise for the lead consultant on site as needed, under the direction of the Biochemistry Consultant Specialty Lead.
Role and responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership within the automated laboratory at the hub laboratory. They should support the development and routine running of HSL rapid response laboratories and may be required to travel to those sites regularly. They will attend MDTs where necessary and foster relationships with clinical staff at the hospitals served by HSL. They will ensure that all aspects of running biochemistry are in compliance with UKAS standards, participate in governance activities, contribute to staff training and cover the duty biochemist rota.
They will join a team of three other consultant clinical scientists/chemical pathologists, four principal and one senior clinical scientist, and work closely with chemical pathologist colleagues within the trusts that HSL serves.
HSL is a public-private partnership providing pathology services to NHS trusts across North Central London, Hertfordshire and West Essex. The hub laboratory is based on Euston Road, near King’s Cross, St Pancras and Euston stations.
Qualifications and experience
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists
- Experience in protein analysis or stone analysis is highly desirable
- Strong leadership and governance skills
- Willingness to travel to other sites as required
