The business is a leading provider of education management software, with its platform used by thousands of schools across the UK. Following significant growth, they're continuing to expand their migrations function and are looking for a strong backend engineer to help schools transition onto their platform from competitor systems.

This is a genuinely interesting role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working with large datasets and building scalable solutions. You'll play a key role in designing and improving the processes and tooling that help onboard thousands of customers onto the platform.

Key aspects of the role:

  • Designing and implementing migration solutions for new customers
  • Working with large and complex datasets to map, transform and validate information
  • Helping schools migrate from competitor platforms onto the Arbor ecosystem
  • Building and improving migration tooling, automation and processes
  • Working with APIs and system integrations
  • Collaborating closely with backend engineering teams on integration requirements
  • Working alongside product, engineering and customer-facing teams throughout migration projects
  • Contributing to the scalability, standardisation and automation of the wider migrations function

You'll need strong backend engineering experience, particularly with PHP, alongside experience working with data migrations, system integrations or platform onboarding projects. A strong understanding of databases, data structures and data transformation will be important, as will experience working with APIs and within SaaS or product-led environments. Exposure to AWS or cloud environments is also required.

They're looking for someone who is naturally curious and asks good discovery questions before jumping into solutions. You'll need to be comfortable working collaboratively across multiple teams and enjoy solving problems in a pragmatic, outcome-focused environment.

Experience with customer migrations, Terraform or Infrastructure as Code, containerisation, automation tooling or AI-assisted development tools would all be a bonus, but aren't essential.
