Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Building Services Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding design team.
The Role
As a Building Services Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical building services systems for technically demanding projects, predominantly within healthcare and specialist environments. You will be responsible for developing designs from concept through to construction, supporting project delivery teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site surveys and prepare feasibility and technical assessment reports.
- Design and coordinate mechanical building services systems including:
- HVAC systems
- Public health services
- Medical gas systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Associated building services infrastructure
- Produce detailed design documentation from concept through to completion, including:
- Technical drawings
- Equipment schedules
- Specifications
- Manufacturing and installation details
- Prepare and present design and construction packages for internal reviews and client presentations.
- Undertake site inspections and support construction and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical service installations across multidisciplinary projects.
- Develop engineering solutions supported by calculations, technical reports, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with specialist suppliers, subcontractors, and technical consultants.
- Review and check design work produced by colleagues to ensure quality and compliance.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior team members.
- Support pre-construction and bid teams with conceptual and technical proposals.
- Work closely with Project Managers and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Building Services Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of UK Building Services design standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with healthcare design standards and technical guidance documentation.
- Knowledge of design-related health and safety legislation, including risk assessment processes.
Experience
- Proven experience delivering mechanical building services designs from concept through to construction.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary building services projects.
- Previous experience within healthcare, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or similarly regulated environments is highly desirable.
- Strong technical problem-solving and engineering design capability.
- Experience conducting site surveys, inspections, and commissioning support activities.
Software Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D.
- Strong Revit experience.
- Competent in producing technical calculations, reports, and design documentation.
