We currently have a vacancy for a SHEQ Advisor for the East of England.
The Role: To be responsible for developing and delivering an effective SHEQ risk management programme, as directed by the appointed line manager, that enables the Region to comply with Core and Client standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice throughout its operations and services. The role holder will be responsible for the provision of professional SHEQ support to the operating sites. This will be achieved by proactively developing and embedding all aspects of the SHEQ programme. The role holder will advise on the implementation of Company policy and procedure, with additional service delivery requirements, across the business as directed by their line manager. The role holder will provide timely and professional advice, support and monitoring to the operating sites on all matters that relate to SHEQ.
Key responsibilities:
- Safety & Health
- Provide competent, practical SHEQ advice and guidance to site teams, supervisors and managers.
- Promote a strong, positive safety culture.
- Support the implementation of the company’s Health & Safety Management System.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and tours, producing clear reports and tracking actions to close out.
- Oversee the development of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), ITPs and task briefings.
- Oversee accident, incident and near miss investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Assist with the implementation of a suitable compliance assurance programme, identifying potential risks and recommending appropriate remedial action where necessary, to ensure that all operations comply with legislative and company requirements.
- Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and safety stand-downs as required.
- Support the management of waste, pollution prevention, ecology, noise, dust and water controls.
- Promote environmental best practice and sustainability initiatives on site.
- Support environmental incident investigations and reporting.
- Contribute to the drafting and implementation of effective health, safety and environmental standards and associated documentation including forms and checklists.
- Promote right-first-time culture and continuous improvement.
- Assist with preparation for internal and external audits, including client and certification audits.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with SHEQ requirements.
- Support the identification of SHEQ training and competency requirements and to ensure needs are met, in liaison with appropriate managers.
- Produce SHEQ performance reports and dashboards.
- Support behavioural safety programmes and engagement activities.
- Assist in bid preparation, make client presentations and attend client meetings and briefings as required.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Experience in a SHEQ, H&S or similar advisory role within highways, civil engineering or construction.
- Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, CDM Regulations and highways specific risks.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits and investigations.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Environmental management (e.g. IEMA, Quality and/or Assurance qualifications and memberships).
- Lead/Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001).
- Experience working on National Highways or local authority frameworks.
- Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) knowledge or qualifications.
