As we continue to grow nationwide, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Fleet Manager to join our Milton Keynes office and lead the strategic and operational management of our LCV/HGV fleet.
The Role
Reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer, you will oversee the commercial fleet across all sites, ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective fleet management. This is a senior leadership role requiring strategic thinking, operational expertise, and the ability to develop a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Strategy & Operations
- Develop and implement a forward-looking fleet strategy aligned with business goals.
- Optimise vehicle acquisition, utilisation, and replacement to reduce long-term costs.
- Monitor fleet performance through KPIs, data analytics, and operational metrics.
- Ensure efficient fleet management systems are in place to track expenditure, utilisation, and compliance.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain the company’s Operator Licences and oversee fleet regulatory compliance.
- Implement training and systems to ensure drivers and staff meet all legal obligations.
- Investigate incidents and insurance claims to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain relationships with vehicle suppliers, service providers, and manufacturers.
- Negotiate contracts to ensure best value and service.
- Oversee fleet maintenance, repairs, and licensing to ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy.
- Sustainability & Innovation
- Promote adoption of fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.
- Keep up to date with industry innovations and best practices in fleet management.
- People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing fleet team.
- Set objectives and performance standards for the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
- Valid UK driving licence and International Transport Manager CPC qualification.
- Experience managing large commercial fleets (c.1,000 vehicles, 90% LCV).
- Strong understanding of fleet management systems, logistics, and regulatory requirements.
- FORS Practitioner qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Exceptional leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills.
