We currently have a vacancy for a Quantity Surveyor to be based in our Milton Keynes Office on a Hybrid basis. This role will require extensive travel across the South East. Reporting in to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, this role will be responsible for overseeing and supporting commercial aspects of our projects, ensuring profitability and compliance with contractual obligations. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to drive commercial success across a portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tendering: contribute to the preparation of bids and tenders, ensuring competitive pricing, alignment with project specifications and managing contract requirements. Analyse and evaluate subcontractor tenders, proposals and contracts.
  • Undertake month end processes to ensure that applications and billing are prompt and accruals and contingencies are accurate.
  • Monitor project performance against ‘as bid’, forecasts, and financial performance through the effective use of cost value reporting (CVR) and highlight aspects to improve.
  • Work closely with Depot, Regional Managers and Project Managers to optimise profitability, cash performance and manage change.
  • Assess and mitigate commercial risks associated with projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Review commercial bid strategies with actual project execution and report recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports on commercial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a commercial management role within the highways or civil engineering sector covering a variety of Forms of Contract.
  • Familiar with NEC4 forms of contract beneficial.
  • Experience with CEMAR’s change notification not essential but helpful.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, commercial principles, and legal frameworks.
  • Proven track record in managing project budgets and achieving financial targets.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Professional qualifications such as MRICS or equivalent are desirable.
  • Traffic Management experience would be beneficial but not compulsory.
