Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Site Manager to join a major 76-week new build prison project in Newmarket. You will be responsible for managing the delivery of all mechanical packages on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to a high standard. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, ideally in plumbing, heating, pipefitting or mechanical building services, with experience managing large-scale mechanical installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical works from installation through to commissioning and handover.
  • Lead and coordinate mechanical subcontractors, suppliers and specialist installers.
  • Oversee plumbing, heating, pipework, plant rooms and associated mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate mechanical works with the wider construction team and other trades.
  • Monitor programme, quality, costs, resources and procurement.
  • Review drawings, specifications and installation methodologies.
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety and quality requirements.
  • Attend progress and coordination meetings with the project team and client.
  • Support testing, commissioning, snagging and final handover.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Site Manager on major construction or M&E projects.
  • Strong mechanical building services background.
  • Experience managing mechanical subcontractors and complex installations.
  • Previous large-scale project experience — custodial, healthcare, commercial, industrial or public sector preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, sequencing and commissioning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • SMSTS preferred.
  • Mechanical qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent are advantageous.
