The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced LV/AP Tester to join a leading electrical engineering team working on a major project in the Cambridge area. The role is site-based and will involve carrying out electrical inspection, testing, energisation and commissioning activities on LV systems, with all energisation works undertaken under instruction and in accordance with company procedures. The project is easily accessible via Cambridge South Station, making commuting convenient from surrounding areas including Bishop's Stortford and beyond. Comprehensive internal training will be provided to enable successful candidates to become an Authorised Person (AP) for PME procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical inspection and testing of LV installations.
  • Undertake energisation and de-energisation activities under authorised instruction.
  • Complete testing documentation and certification accurately.
  • Ensure all work complies with BS7671 Wiring Regulations and company procedures.
  • Follow safe systems of work and maintain the highest health & safety standards.
  • Assist with fault finding and verification of electrical installations.
  • Work closely with engineers, supervisors and commissioning teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in internal AP (Authorised Person) training and competency assessments.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and compliance on site.

Requirements

  • City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) in Inspection & Testing.
  • Current BS7671 Wiring Regulations qualification (18th Edition or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience carrying out electrical inspection and testing.
  • Valid ECS/JIB Electrician Card.
  • Good understanding of electrical installations and testing procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working on large infrastructure, rail or major construction projects.
  • Existing LV Authorised Person (AP) experience (not essential).
  • Experience with PME procedures.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
