Gardener / Junior Gardener Opportunity for Private Estate

Overview

Are you newly trained in horticulture and eager to put your skills into practice? Do you have a passion for plants, nature, and outdoor work? We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Gardener to join our team at a stunning private estate in Buckinghamshire. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, under the guidance of our experienced Head Gardener.

As a Gardener, youll help maintain the diverse and beautiful grounds, which include flower beds, woodlands, lakes, and landscaped areas. The role offers hands-on experience, where youll build your skills and grow in the world of private estate gardening.

Start date: ASAP.

Job Duties
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform regular gardening maintenance, such as planting, pruning, weeding, mowing, edging, and mulching
  • Assist in seasonal planting and caring for flower beds, borders, pots, and containers to ensure the garden is beautiful year-round
  • Help maintain lawns through mowing, aeration, and basic fertilisation
  • Support the care of the estates woodlands, including basic tree care, undergrowth clearing, and path maintenance
  • Assist in maintaining the lakes, including ensuring cleanliness and supporting aquatic plant care
  • Operate the estates irrigation system under the Head Gardeners guidance
  • Manually water plants, especially newly planted specimens or areas during dry spells
  • Safely use and maintain garden machinery, such as mowers, trimmers, and hand tools
  • Perform basic checks on equipment and report any repair needs
  • Ensure paths, walkways, and garden areas are clear of debris and leaves
  • Inspect and maintain garden structures (benches, fences, trellises) and report any issues
  • Assist with composting and environmentally friendly waste disposal
  • Help prepare areas for estate events, including tidying and planting to enhance guest spaces.
  • Assist in cleaning and restoring the grounds after events
  • Work closely with the Head Gardener and other team members to keep the estate in top condition.
  • Follow instructions, complete tasks to a high standard, and report any issues to the Head Gardener

Candidates should be/have:

  • A strong interest in gardening, with some training or experience in horticulture
  • A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a willingness to take on new tasks
  • The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards
  • Physical fitness and the ability to handle manual work
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable but not essential:

Formal horticultural qualification or training.

A valid drivers licence

Hours

  • Full-time, 07:30 16:30, with some flexibility.
  • No weekend work required
