The Role
We are looking for a Junior Analyst (Summer Placement – Full Time) to join our UK Business Case Team in Edinburgh for a 4‑month period between May and September. This is a great opportunity for a student who wants hands‑on exposure to renewable energy, project development, and commercial analysis within a fast‑moving team that supports investment decisions across COP’s offshore wind portfolio.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Business Case Support: Assist in preparing early‑stage business case inputs for offshore wind and adjacent technologies (assumptions gathering, data entry, preparing comparison tables, structuring key inputs).
- Financial Modelling Inputs: Support simple modelling tasks such as updating assumptions, preparing input sheets, validating numbers, and organising datasets for more senior analysts to use.
- Market & Policy Research: Conduct desk research on UK and European offshore wind markets, supply chain developments, policy updates, grid infrastructure, seabed leasing rounds, and competitor activities.
- Data Organisation: Help structure, clean and maintain internal files, libraries and inputs (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), enabling the team to access consistent data quickly.
- Slide Preparation: Draft simple, clear PowerPoint slides summarising analysis, research findings, maps, charts or project updates for internal discussions.
- Valuation & Screening Assistance: Support early opportunity screening by gathering site data, compiling benchmarks and preparing standardised templates.
- Ad‑hoc Support: Assist the team during peak workload periods (AR8 preparation, M&A activities, auction work, or cross‑team coordination).
- Internal Coordination: Help prepare documentation for meetings, keep trackers updated, and support general team organisation.
This is a hands‑on learning experience where you will gain exposure to how commercial decisions are formed in large‑scale renewable energy projects.
Your Experience
We are looking for motivated students who are curious, analytical, and keen to learn from experienced professionals in the offshore wind sector. Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, business, finance, engineering, energy, or a related field. Have a strong interest in renewable energy, especially offshore wind, energy markets, valuation, project economics or strategy. Possess strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a good grasp of Excel and the ability to work with numbers confidently. Are comfortable handling multiple smaller tasks and can manage your time efficiently. Have good research and synthesis skills, able to turn information into clear summaries. Are proactive, curious, and willing to take ownership of tasks, even when they are small but important. Communicate clearly and work well as part of a team. Are available full‑time and able to work in Edinburgh throughout the placement period.
