Job Title: Engineering Planner Estimator
Location: Dorset
OverviewI am working alongside a Dorset based engineering business who are looking for a Timeāserved Engineer with a strong manufacturing or production engineering background to take on the responsibilities of Engineering Planner Estimator. The successful candidate will be commercially aware while remaining technically driven.
This role would suit an individual who thoroughly understands manufacturing processes, production planning, and estimating within a fastāpaced and dynamic engineering environment. The role is key to ensuring customer requirements are accurately translated into achievable manufacturing plans and commercially sound quotations.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
Understand manufacturing methods, routings, and production workflows
Assess machining processes across CNC and manual operations
Prepare accurate, detailed, and wellāstructured quotations and proposals
Estimate machining times, materials, tooling, subcontract processes, and overheads
Ensure quotations clearly demonstrate understanding of customer requirements
Support sales planning with sound engineering and manufacturing input
Maintain accurate planning and estimating data within ERP/MRP systems
Create and review routings, BOMs, and production orders
Support production teams with technical input where required
Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives and apply Lean manufacturing principles
Work effectively with multiāfunctional teams in a fastāpaced engineering environment
Deliver consistently to tight deadlines and under pressure
Essential Skills and Experience
Timeāserved Engineer with a strong manufacturing or production engineering background
Proven experience in planning, estimating, or cost engineering within an engineering business or a strong engineer looking to move into this type of position, having been handsāon on the shop floor
Strong understanding of CNC and manual machining processes
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, production workflows, and routing
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Perhaps some customerāfacing or technical sales support experience
