About the Opportunity
At Copello, we’re proud to be supporting a leading technology and engineering organisation working on complex, high-profile projects across advanced research, development and engineering. This is an exciting opportunity for a Technician to join a specialist engineering environment, providing hands-on support across prototype manufacture, modification, repair and electro-mechanical assembly. You’ll work closely with engineers, product teams and project managers, helping turn design concepts into working prototypes while providing practical technical expertise throughout the development process.
The Role
As a Technician, you will be responsible for manufacturing prototypes in line with project requirements, working from engineering drawings and schematics and applying industry best practice. The role will involve detailed hands-on work, including working under magnification and soldering components down to 0201 size, as well as BGA rework. You’ll also provide technical support across PCB and cable design, component selection, design for manufacture and wider development engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture prototype design concepts in line with project requirements.
- Carry out electro-mechanical assembly of products.
- Work accurately from engineering drawings, schematics and other technical documentation.
- Provide specialist advice and ideas around new and emerging technologies relevant to prototype manufacture.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical assistance to the engineering community.
- Work closely with Engineers, Product Managers and Project Managers.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal documentation, including concessions, test reports and work instructions.
- Fault-find and repair non-conforming products.
- Support wider production and manufacturing activities as required.
- Follow company policies, procedures and relevant engineering standards.
- Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to your experience and qualifications to support the smooth operation of the business.
About You
We’re looking for a technically capable and detail-focused individual with practical experience in electronics manufacturing and prototype development.
Education & Qualifications
You’ll ideally have one or more of the following:
- A technical apprenticeship in Engineering or a relevant subject.
- A technical degree in Engineering or a relevant subject.
- Equivalent relevant technical or industry experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
You should have a good overall understanding of electronic engineering principles within a development environment, including experience with:
- Working to IPC standards or higher.
- Hand placement of surface-mount technology.
- Cable forming and prototyping.
- PCB modification and repair.
- Box builds and complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Working under microscopes for extended periods.
- Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
