As a Principal Engineer in Finite Element Analysis you will lead innovative structural simulation initiatives that directly impact the performance of advanced submarines. Role Responsibilities
- Lead the development and enhancement of the Stealth Engineering Finite Element Analysis (FEA) capability, establishing best practices and technical standards.
- Perform advanced detailed FEA simulations to evaluate structural behaviour under various operational conditions, assessing impacts on stealth‑related performance metrics.
- Analyse structure‑borne vibration and fluid‑borne noise transmission across submarine components and systems, identifying potential signature sources.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with multidisciplinary teams—including structural, acoustic and stealth specialists—to ensure design solutions meet stringent stealth, structural integrity and safety requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, visualisations and presentations of analysis findings, communicating complex results effectively to design teams, stakeholders and decision‑makers.
- Support model validation efforts, correlating FEA results with physical testing data, and refine simulation techniques to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in analytical methods, tools and processes, fostering innovation within the team.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
- Proven experience with FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL or equivalent, with a track record of delivering high‑fidelity simulations.
- Deep understanding of structural mechanics principles, dynamic analysis, thermal effects and coupled multi‑physics analyses.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex simulation data and translate findings into practical design insights.
- Excellent communication skills for preparing technical documentation and delivering presentations to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem‑solving.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
