Please note: Due to the nature of the work, this role requires eligibility for Security Clearance (SC) and can only consider Sole British Nationals.

Copello are working with a leading Defence organisation in Kent to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team supporting the design, development and ongoing support of complex, safety-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of innovative mechanical design solutions to meet customer and programme requirements
  • Produce and review technical documentation, design data packs, calculations and engineering reports
  • Act as a Design Authority, reviewing and approving engineering designs and technical datasets
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Support design reviews, qualification activities and risk reduction programmes
  • Work closely with project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions on time and within budget

Experience Required

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to manufacture and support
  • Experience producing and reviewing engineering drawings, models and technical documentation
  • Previous experience leading technical activities, projects or engineering teams
  • Ability to operate at a senior technical level within a complex engineering environment
