We are currently looking for a Head of Commercial on a contract basis in Scotland.
Contract Length: 7 months (until 31st Dec 2026)
Rate: £93.50 per hour - Travel expenses covered if not located nearby
IR35: Inside
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Work Pattern: 3 days a week onsite minimum
Role Overview
The Head of Commercial provides strategic commercial leadership across the organisation, overseeing contract strategy, negotiation, governance, and financial performance. The role ensures commercial outcomes support organisational objectives, risks are effectively managed, and both supply chain and client relationships are governed to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Leadership and Strategy
- Lead end‐to‐end contract negotiation and execution for both project‐based service orders and resource‐based commercial models.
- Develop, own, and implement the commercial strategy to achieve target margin outcomes across all contract types, adjusting in line with the evolving pipeline.
- Drive effective supply chain engagement to support successful delivery, safeguarding the commercial strategy and ensuring balanced outcomes for all partners.
- Contract & Supply Chain Management
- Monitor and evaluate supply chain performance and contractual compliance, taking corrective action where performance, risk exposure, or commercial alignment requires intervention.
- Support project teams with pricing activities, ensuring alignment with commercial strategy and acting as final reviewer before internal governance processes.
- Oversee and coordinate all commercial governance reviews to ensure contracts, proposals, and commercial submissions receive formal approval prior to client submission.
- Frameworks, Performance & Processes
- Work with senior leadership to develop and validate KPIs, ensuring commercial risk, incentivisation, and performance measures are balanced and appropriate.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously enhance commercial tools, processes, and protocols governing commercial administration across the business.
- Financial Management
- Partner with Finance to finalise monthly P&L reporting and provide recommendations for profit distribution where relevant.
- Serve as the escalation point for commercial issues arising within project teams, resolving matters directly with client‐side commercial representatives when required.
- Contract Compliance & Instruction Management
- Ensure project teams secure formal instructions and agreement of commercial values for compensation events or variations, fully aligned with contractual requirements.
- Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Participate in regular commercial leadership meetings with client counterparts and peer organisations.
- Establish and chair internal and external commercial meetings to ensure timely processing of compensation events, variations, and other commercial matters, mitigating organisational risk.
