We are currently looking for a Calibration Project Lead for a project in Huddersfield on an initial 6-month contract.
As a Calibration Engineer, you will be working in a proactive and collaborative project working environment, providing governance in relation to Quality Management whilst supporting project deliveries. Daily activities will be conducted in accordance with our internal quality management system procedures and processes in line with ISO 9001:2015. Directly working under the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the internal calibration department supporting the business in calibration, measurement systems, or measurement related activities in accordance with recognised national and internal standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Support maintenance and governance of the ISO 9001:2015 Management systems alongside customer and legislative requirements, ensuring its continuing effectiveness by formal systematic auditing in the function.
- Support the monitoring of the organisations Quality, policies and practices being implemented consistently across the function and verifying compliance to applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and customer requirements is maintained.
- Management of the calibration department, processes, and procedures.
- Management and maintenance of the calibration system.
- Calibration of measuring equipment as required by ISO 9001:2015 and our internal BMS procedures, in accordance with national and internationally recognised standards (BS, EN, DIN, ISO).
- Calibration of measuring equipment using known master gauges in a temperature controlled clean environment.
- Management and liaison with 3rd party accredited calibration laboratories and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to calibrate measuring equipment onsite and offsite.
- Produce, communicate, and follow up with monthly departmental calibration recall lists.
- Preparing, reviewing, monitoring, reporting on frequent key performance indicators (K.P.I’s) using industry standard tools and creating reports on aspects of Quality performance.
- Working with departments leaders to research, assess and procure the most suitable type and brands of measuring equipment.
- Review of internal and external calibration processes, aiming to continuously improve to maintain a cost-effective service.
- Providing manufacturing support in the measurement, inspection, and verification of products.
- Support the integration of industry standard quality processes including MSA Studies.
- Storing, maintaining, and reviewing calibration records, contractual documents, and inspection reports.
- Engagement with 3rd party accreditation bodies, customers (external and/or internal) and end users in the verification and delivery of calibration requirements.
- Conducting internal, business systems audits in accordance with ISO9001, AQAP, and incorporating risk-based thinking.
- Create, maintain, and develop controlled documents.
- Provide daily leadership of all Calibration related activities in the business.
- Make independent, impartial, and robust decisions using data driven and logic arguments without influence.
- Manage, coach, and develop colleagues on calibration and measurement systems.
- Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance.
- Allocated point of contact in relation to calibration for the business, auditors, or other interested parties.
- Ensure communication of quality governance in the allocated value stream to the Lead Quality Engineer.

Work Experience Required Skills (Technical Competency):- Minimum experience in ISO9001:2015 or equivalent Management systems.
- Apprenticeship in related field of study (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
- Experience in a discipline of Calibration, Quality, Quality Control.
- Experience of working in an Engineering environment.
- Auditor certified to ISO9001:2015 or equivalent.
- Experience in a quality control role with strong dimensional and analytical skills.
- Experience of reading and understanding detailed mechanical drawings, and Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience of high tolerances, complex components, and both metric and imperial measurement systems.
- Experience in manufacturing inspection, final inspection, goods inwards inspection, or similar experience.
- Knowledge or experience of calibrating measuring equipment.
- Computer literate with use of Microsoft Office.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum: Apprenticeship in related field of study (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
- Preferred: HNC/HND in related field of study (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a similar role within the Marine and Defence industry.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., ISO9001, AQAP, Lloyds Rules, Defence Standards, and others).
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, quality and continuous improvement.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
