Copello is recruiting for a ITEA Systems Engineer on a contract basis for a defence organisation in Buckinghamshire on a 6 month contract. The Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the integration, testing, verification, and acceptance of airborne radio communication systems, with a strong emphasis on hands‑on RF testing and system verification activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead physical and functional integration, verification, and acceptance activities for airborne radio communication systems.
- Develop functional test procedures at subsystem and system level for radio communication systems.
- Execute testing in accordance with approved test procedures and continuously improve procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain a clear and organised view of test progress, risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Operate RF laboratory test equipment, including signal generators, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, noise sources, and associated instrumentation, to stimulate and analyse system performance.
- Update and maintain systems engineering documentation and records.
- Participate in wider verification, validation, qualification, and acceptance activities as required.
- Support customer and supplier meetings, including preparation of technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Provide regular progress updates and elevate technical issues where appropriate.
- Deliver assigned work packages to agreed cost, schedule, and quality targets.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or equivalent experience in Electronics, RF Communications, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' Systems Engineering experience, including recent experience in a lead or senior technical role.
- Experience in verification, integration, or design of RF communication systems, electronic systems, or networked systems.
- Practical experience of system-level testing, verification, and evidence generation.
- Understanding of systems engineering processes and methodologies.
- Experience with TETRA and/or VHF radio communication systems.
- Experience working on communications and radar systems.
- Knowledge of aerospace and defence standards, including ARP4754, RTCA DO-160G, and MIL-STD-810.
- Experience using systems engineering toolsets such as Polarion.
- Practical experience operating RF test equipment and conducting laboratory-based verification activities.
The role will require candidates to have active or eligibility for SC clearance. Due to the nature of the role candidates will be required to be onsite 5 days a week. Role is paying circa £80 per day (inside IR35).
