IT Infrastructure Engineer Initial 6 month contract (Inside IR35) - Whiteley (4 days p/week on site) – SC Eligible

About the Opportunity We are recruiting on behalf of a global organisation seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain its EMEA-wide IT infrastructure.

This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, security, and performance of critical IT systems while driving continuous improvements across the technology estate.

Working closely with the IT Lead EMEA and wider regional and corporate IT teams, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise across infrastructure, networking, virtualisation, endpoint management, and Linux administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the IT Lead EMEA in the delivery of IT services across the region.
  • Act as the technical interface between regional and corporate IT teams to ensure consistent infrastructure standards and successful system integration.
  • Ensure compliance with configuration management and change control processes.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure issues to maintain high availability and service continuity.
  • Assist with the deployment, evaluation, and optimisation of new technologies and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Manage system backups and support disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date infrastructure documentation in line with company standards.
  • Support the IT Service Desk across 1st to 3rd line issues where required.
  • Drive continual service improvements across the IT environment.
  • Ensure all endpoints comply with established security baselines.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise across Linux-based systems.

Skills and Experience Essential

  • Proven experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in a service delivery environment.
  • Strong Linux system administration experience (Ubuntu or related distributions).
  • Experience supporting Windows Server and Windows 11 environments.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online.
  • Experience supporting LAN/WAN networking technologies, including Dell, Cisco, and Aruba.
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Nutanix.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across servers, endpoints, networking, and infrastructure services.
  • Experience with endpoint security, patch management, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
  • Ability to work across multiple technical projects and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with Power Shell, Bash, or Python scripting.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as PRTG and SNMP.
  • ITIL certification or experience working within ITIL best practice environments.
  • Experience producing technical documentation, business cases, or infrastructure proposals
