Copello are working with a leading defence and engineering organisation to recruit a Principal Safety Engineer to join a long-term programme at the forefront of the UK's nuclear sector. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in high-integrity, regulated environments and wants to take real ownership of key safety deliverables. You'll be part of a team that directly supports the development and ongoing assurance of nuclear safety cases — working closely with Engineering, Human Factors and Site Safety teams to keep standards high and the plant safe.
What you'll be doing:
- Authoring and managing nuclear site assets' design substantiation documentation supporting the site nuclear safety case
- Collaborating with the wider business on site assets nuclear design substantiation related activities
- Supporting the implementation of design substantiation requirements
- Reviewing analyses, assessments, and calculations supporting nuclear design substantiation
- Supporting periodic review of safety
- Taking ownership of deliverables, and demonstrating high levels of autonomy and leadership
- Support in the development of other Nuclear Substantiation team members
- Working closely with a broad range of stakeholders including Site Safety Case, Human Factors, and Engineering Authority Teams
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Degree qualified in a STEM subject or equivalent working experience.
- Ability to produce high quality technical reports
- Determined in driving all deliverable and associated activities through due process to completion
- Design substantiation analysis and assessment exposure/experience
- Excellent stakeholder management
Desirable:
- Broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines
- Chartered Engineer from the Engineering Council and a member of a relevant professional body
- Experience of the nuclear industry and nuclear safety regulations would be desired but not essential
- Must be a sole British national and eligible for SC clearance due to project requirements
