Copello are working with a defence & security company who are looking for a Technical Author to join the team. Main responsibilities include creating/updating/reviewing/maintenance of Technical Publications (TPs) that will be provided to our customers both in the UK and internationally, liaising regularly with Customers, internal stakeholders, and Suppliers, to achieve high and consistent levels of customer satisfaction. Aligning to relevant MoD requirements and standards such as Joint Service Publications (JSPs), S1000D, and MLI-STDs where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of Technical Publications including but not limited to:
  • User/operator manuals
  • Maintenance manuals
  • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Installation/Assembly guides
  • Release notes
  • Technical Service Bulletins & safety notices
  • Disposal instructions
  • Training manuals
  • Specifications & data sheets (inc hazard logs)
  • Peer review - Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) artifacts, such as ILS plans, that will be shared with external customers
  • Regulatory & Safety Documentation
  • Support the technical authoring of bid/tender/quote submissions
  • Collaborate with internal (liaising with Sales, ILS, Engineering, QA, Logistics, Trade and Compliance) and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of TPs with customer needs and expectations.
  • Continuous improvement activities such as the creation and enhancement of Customer Support Services procedures and policies.
  • Promote the company brand and products so customers, partners and suppliers value our honesty and integrity, and have confidence in our ability to successfully meet their needs.
  • Undertake such other reasonable duties, commensurate with the job holder's experience and qualifications, as may be required for the smooth operation of the business.
  • Education and Qualifications

    • Degree or HND/HNC qualified

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • Previously held Technical Author role(s)
    • Knowledge of JSPs and S1000D
    • Simple Technical English
    • Knowledge and experience of the application of through-life support standards such as DEF STAN 00-600, 00-40, 00-42, Mil Std 217F and KiD
    • Knowledge of ITIL (v3 or v4)
