Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Copello are working with a defence client who are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of new product developments.

In this role, you will be expected to be creative and innovative in the generation of concepts and detailed designs using 3D CAD and FEA & CFD simulation tools. We are looking for an engineer capable of designing products, critiquing, developing and following the process through to delivery. Someone with tenacity, attention to detail and capable of leading their own projects autonomously.

You will provide expert technical guidance to the mechanical design team, supporting the Chief Engineer in maintaining a high-quality technical output on time and to cost

Key responsibilities

  • Produce detailed designs using 3D CAD and use FEA and CFD tools to simulate mechanical behaviour
  • Undertake tolerance analysis of designs including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Generate and amend drawings and documentation to appropriate standards including BS8888
  • Produce documentation to support development of aerospace products
  • Act as Lead Engineer on projects and bids when required
  • Continuous improvement of processes and tools including support to corporate change initiatives

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Min 5 years in aerospace or defence environment and working knowledge of aerospace standards
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Requirements management experience
  • Experience of developing mechanical design solutions through entire lifecycle.
  • Experience using simulation analysis tools (FEA/CFD) to influence designs and understand behaviour of components
