Senior Electronics Engineer
Marlow – 4 days pw on site, 1 day at home
Copello are working with a defence client who are looking for an Electronics Engineer to join there Avionics Business Unit who are responsible for designing, developing and supporting a portfolio of products. We are looking for electronics engineer to bring there experience of electronics circuit design and development to projects within this portfolio. The successful candidate will have a systems thinking mind-set, coupled with extensive knowledge of complex product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership for the design and development of electronic sub-systems for the aerospace and defence market
- Deliver project tasks to schedule, cost and quality while adhering to internal processes and best practice.
- Research, design, develop and prototype electronic solutions in support of product development.
- Characterise, test and down-select components for performance and cost.
- Schematic capture of mixed signal circuit Design (Analogue, RF and Digital) using Altium or similar.
- Test, characterisation and verification of prototype designs
- Circuit simulation using LT Spice, Agilent ADS
- Develop, write and deploy software to aid evaluation of electronic devices or automate test equipment using C# or similar.
- Provide inputs to the team to ensure designs meet requirements for manufacture utilising DFx and/or lean concepts.
- Use various laboratory equipment such as VNAs, RF Spectrum Analyser and Oscilloscopes etc to conduct measurements.
- Prepare documentation such as Technical Reports, Production Test Schedules etc
Competencies
- Experience in design of RF, High Speed digital or Power Supply electronics modules
- Good knowledge of current RF technologies including – low noise receiver design, RF sampling ADCs and DACs, PLL/Synthesisers, digital attenuators, receiver protectors, power amplifier and lumped-element circuit design.
- Knowledge of RF Antenna Systems and awareness of Phase Array Antennas.
- Knowledge of GPS and its vulnerabilities would be advantageous but not essential.
- Knowledge of common interface busses such as SPI, I2C and PMBus would be advantageous.
- Good knowledge of current high speed digital technologies, CPLD, Microprocessor, FPGA, DDR Memory etc.
- Experience of deriving and capturing system level requirements from high level customer requirements
- Experience in Project life-cycle delivery from bids to operation.
- Experience of design or manufacturing in the aviation industry.
Qualifications and required experience
- Team working ability and drive to deliver on time
- C experience in an embedded environment
- Experience of embedded processors and real-time operating systems
- Experience of interfacing with hardware devices and peripherals
- Solid understanding of software development life-cycles and processes
- Experience of requirement analysis, software design and software architecture
- Experience with source control tools such as SubVersion and Git
- Behavioural: self-starting, adaptable, problem solving
- Desirable:
- C++ experience in an embedded environment
- Object Oriented Design and Programming experience
- Familiarity with desktop application, GUI/event-based design
- Knowledge of issue-tracking tools, such as Jira.
- Knowledge of releasing software to Production
- Knowledge of DO-178 would be advantageous
