Copello are looking for an experienced Principal Safety Engineer to provide technical leadership across the development of complex, safety-critical defence systems. The role will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and manage risks throughout the product lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading hazard identification, safety assessments and reliability analysis
- Producing and reviewing FMEA/FMECA, FTA and other safety analysis
- Developing and maintaining safety cases, hazard logs and safety requirements
- Influencing design decisions to ensure safety is embedded throughout development
- Leading safety reviews and workshops with engineering teams and stakeholders
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers
- Supporting design reviews, verification activities, bids and customer engagements
What we’re looking for:
- Strong experience within Safety Engineering in a safety-critical environment
- Experience across hazard analysis, risk assessment and safety case development
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards, ideally Def Stan 00-056 and/or MIL-STD 1629
- Experience with FMEA/FMECA, FTA, PHA or FHA
- Ability to influence technical decisions and work across multidisciplinary teams
- Defence, aerospace, nuclear, rail or similar regulated industry experience
