The Role
Fintech SaaS - Payment Operations & International Markets
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Business Analyst to join our dedicated product team and drive the analysis, design, and optimization of our fintech SaaS platform. This role encompasses payment processing integrations (Stripe, PayPal), tax compliance systems (Avalara), regulatory compliance, customer-facing features, and internal operations—with a specific focus on international market expansion. As a strategic leader, you will bridge business and technology, mentor team members, establish best practices, and shape product strategy while working in an agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Product Strategy- Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to influence product strategy and roadmap decisions
- Lead requirements gathering and analysis for major initiatives and epics across payment, tax, and compliance domains
- Identify and champion process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Establish and evolve BA best practices, documentation standards, and methodologies for the organization
- Analyze complex business needs across payment processing, tax compliance, regulatory requirements, and international market expansion
- Create comprehensive business requirements documents, detailed user stories with acceptance criteria, and business process documentation
- Develop process flow diagrams (BPMN), data flow diagrams, and other visual models to communicate complex business processes
- Translate business requirements into actionable user stories for agile development teams
- Facilitate backlog refinement sessions and ensure stories meet Definition of Ready
- Analyze and optimize payment processing workflows across multiple providers (Stripe, PayPal) and international markets
- Design solutions for tax compliance and calculation requirements using platforms like Avalara
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS requirements and international payment regulations (GDPR, PSD2, etc.)
- Work with finance, accounting, and compliance teams to address regulatory and operational requirements
- Actively participate in all agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, QA, product management, and operations
- Manage relationships with external vendors and partners (Stripe, PayPal, Avalara)
- Present findings, recommendations, and project updates to executive stakeholders
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings across compliance, legal, finance, and international teams
- Conduct and synthesize customer feedback sessions and user research
- Mentor junior Business Analysts and team members on analysis techniques and best practices
- Provide guidance on complex business problems and analysis approaches
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity
- Strong foundational knowledge of payment systems and international payment processing
- Deep understanding of PCI-DSS compliance requirements
- Knowledge of international payment regulations including GDPR, PSD2, and regional compliance requirements
- Experience with fintech, financial services, e-commerce, payments, SaaS, or banking industries preferred (but open to exceptional candidates from other backgrounds)
- Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with mature practices
- Expert proficiency in tools such as Jira, Aha!, Notion, and Asana
- Strong understanding of Scrum ceremonies, sprint cadences, and backlog management
- Exceptional requirements elicitation, documentation, and management skills
- Expertise in creating process flow diagrams using BPMN or similar methodologies
- Proficiency in data flow diagramming and business process modeling
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
- Ability to translate complex technical and business concepts for diverse audiences
- Develop comprehensive understanding of all payment flows, tax systems, and compliance requirements
- Successfully lead your first major initiative or epic from requirements through delivery
- Establish or refine BA documentation standards and templates for the team
- Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders across product, engineering, compliance, and business teams
- Identify and present actionable process improvements to enhance team efficiency and product quality
