Copart UK Ltd is seeking a motivated and commercially minded Solicitor to join our legal department. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, you will play a key role in supporting a wide range of business functions by providing specialist legal advice across civil litigation, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, employment matters, and data protection. This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor looking to develop their in-house legal career within a fast-paced and evolving industry. Initially, you will spend time gaining a thorough understanding of the Copart business, building strong internal relationships, and becoming a trusted advisor and ambassador for the legal function across the organisation. This position will be hybrid with a minimum of 3 days in the Bedford office.
Copart is a leading provider of vehicle remarketing and automotive logistics services, operating a robust digital platform and extensive national network. Our in-house legal team is expanding as we continue to grow, supporting complex commercial operations with pragmatic, business-focused legal advice.
Key Responsibilities- Draft witness statements and legal documentation relating to claims involving Copart.
- Represent Copart at County Court hearings, both remotely and in person, across a range of civil matters.
- Manage claims and complaints involving breach of contract, negligence, and misrepresentation.
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts, NDAs, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
- Support regulatory compliance, licence renewals, and applications for new licences where required.
- Provide practical legal advice and respond to queries from across the business.
- Research new legal and regulatory developments and prepare guidance for internal stakeholders.
- Assist with data protection matters, including data subject access requests (DSARs).
- Support reporting, presentations, and administrative tasks within the legal team.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Head of Legal.
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 4 years’ PQE.
- Strong experience handling civil litigation matters from inception to conclusion, particularly defendant-side litigation.
- Commercially minded with excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Experience working within a commercial legal environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Professional, adaptable, proactive, and eager to learn.
- Experience handling data protection matters, including DSARs.
- Previous in-house legal experience or a strong interest in moving in-house.
- Experience implementing new legal or operational processes.
- Interest in the automotive, logistics, or vehicle remarketing industry.
