CNC Set-Up Operator-Milling and Grinding
Ready to take your CNC skills to the next level?
We're looking for an experienced CNC Set-Up Operator who's confident working with multi-axis CNC machinery and enjoys the challenge of getting set-ups right, solving problems and producing consistently high-quality work.
You'll take ownership of CNC set-up and operation, working from technical drawings and established processes to load and adjust programs, optimise tooling and machining parameters, and create simple CNC programs when required. You'll also play an important part in improving efficiency, maintaining quality and sharing your knowledge with less experienced team members.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Set up multi-axis CNC machines by loading preset programs and making approved adjustments to programs, offsets, tooling and machining parameters.
- Put your programming skills to work, editing existing CNC programs and creating simple programs within established process requirements.
- Turn drawings into finished products by interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements and work instructions to determine the right set-up, tooling, inspection and production approach.
- Operate CNC equipment safely and efficiently to produce high-quality products that meet specifications and work instructions.
- Own the quality of your work by carrying out in-process inspections, recording results and making approved adjustments where required.
- Troubleshoot machining challenges, including routine set‑up, tooling and dimensional issues, escalating more complex or recurring problems when needed.
- Keep machines performing at their best through adjustments such as offsets and tapers, alongside routine preventative maintenance including coolants and filters.
- Help us work smarter by spotting opportunities to improve set‑up times, machining consistency and the clarity of work instructions.
- Share your CNC know‑how by helping train and support new or less experienced CNC Set‑Up team members.
- Keep it clean and organised, maintaining your machines, tools, equipment and work area to a high standard.
What You’ll Bring
We're looking for someone with solid CNC machining experience who combines technical know‑how with a practical, problem‑solving mindset.
- Around 2+ years of relevant CNC manufacturing experience, with 3+ years preferred.
- Previous hands‑on experience operating and setting CNC machines with Fanuc controls - essential.
- A Level or equivalent in a relevant subject and/or vocational or technical certification preferred, but not essential.
- Experience interpreting, editing and modifying existing CNC programs, with the ability to create simple programs within established processes.
- A working knowledge of CNC program structure, G & M codes, and CAD/CAM outputs.
- Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Intermediate maths skills, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry, along with solid computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds.
The Person We're Looking For
You're someone who doesn't just run the machine — you understand the process behind it. You're comfortable making adjustments, investigating problems and using your technical knowledge to keep quality and productivity on track.
You’ll take pride in getting the set-up right, producing consistently great work and helping the wider team become even better at what they do.
