Job summary – What to expect:

As an Assistant Accountant in our UK Packaging Business Unit, you will be responsible for financial month-end close, controls and reporting of this unit, for all of our Mountpark site’s packaging activities. This role reports to the Finance Director for Global Packaging.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing accurate and timely Financial/Management accounts to support the effective monitoring of the Packaging business unit, including presenting performance KPIs to Department Leads.
  • Monitoring and reporting the expenditure and headcount of a group of indirect cost centres.
  • Supporting in the preparation, analysis and reporting, on a monthly basis or as required, all packaging data including packaged volumes, operational efficiency, headcount, overhead costs and manufacturing variances.
  • Providing on-site financial control to all aspects of the packaging business unit, and providing day to day support and advice to staff and management team members on existing and future packaging internal control practices.
  • Support in the production of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for the Packaging Business Unit
  • Business modelling, and liaising with the companies’ internal and external auditors as required
  • Performing balance sheet reconciliations and journal posting.
  • Support the raising of CEAs and preparation of presentations to OFAC.
  • Supporting projects and other duties where required.

About you:

We are looking for someone with:

  • A high level of computer literacy, particularly in the use of integrated financial databases and costing systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Intermediate skill in the use of PowerPoint and Word.
  • A disciplined approach to identifying problems and providing solutions.
  • Results-orientation and a strong drive.
  • Strong teamworking skills.
  • Understanding of, and orientation towards, continuous improvement.
  • High level of professional knowledge and experience.
  • Able to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A high level of initiative and self-motivation.
  • The ability to encourage new thinking and display company values.

Experience & Education:

Required

  • Qualified or Part Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or Qualified by Experience.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of US GAAP preferred.
  • Experience of accounting in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in the financial management of capital investments preferred, but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley Act would be preferable.
