This role is responsible for the commissioning of fire curtain systems on-site to ensure they operate correctly and meet specification. The Commissioning Engineer works closely with installation teams, project managers, and clients to complete final checks, carry out functional testing, and resolve any issues before handover. The role requires a strong understanding of control systems, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time and priorities effectively.

Key Responsibilities

As a Commissioning Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Carrying out the final commissioning of fire curtain systems on-site.
  • Performing functional testing and system configuration in line with drawings and specifications.
  • Identifying and resolving faults during commissioning, working with the wider team as needed.
  • Completing commissioning documentation and ensuring accurate records.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and project teams to ensure system handover requirements are met.
  • Providing technical support and advice during commissioning stages.
  • Delivering effective client training to ensure users understand system operation and maintenance.
  • Attending cause and effect testing to ensure faults are identified and resolved, supporting a successful handover.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with current regulations and procedures.
  • Managing time effectively to meet deadlines and support multiple projects as required.
  • Occasionally assisting with installation, servicing, and fault-finding where necessary.
Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience commissioning or maintaining electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and professional approach when working on customer sites.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time and work independently.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • CSCS card.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of fire curtain or similar life safety systems.
  • Relevant electrical or engineering qualifications (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds).
