Job Summary
The R&D Engineer will join our R&D team, contributing to the development of innovative spectacle lens technologies for myopia control. This role will contribute to all stages of product development: from optical design, simulations, prototyping and experimental assessment as well as support for process development and product qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype and evaluate new product concepts.
  • Conduct experimental assessments of both new and existing products.
  • Support product design, including tolerancing and performance validation.
  • Contribute to product and process qualification, including manufacturing readiness, metrology, and documentation.
  • Develop and implement new manufacturing processes for current and future product generations.
  • Develop tooling, procedures, and process documentation for the UK facility.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing, including troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.
  • Assess and support implementation of manufacturing change requests.
  • Develop metrology approaches and data analysis methods.
  • Support transfer of processes into manufacturing sites and ensure effective handover.
  • Document and report on development activities, including process and product qualification.
  • Contribute to intellectual property generation, including patent filings.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of geometric and physical optics, optical design and tolerancing.
  • Experimental characterisation of optical components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Able to work with autonomy.
  • Working knowledge with laser equipment is advantageous.
  • Experience in highly regulated environment is advantageous.
  • Experience applying Lean Six Sigma tools (green belt) is advantageous.
  • Good presentation and report writing skills.
  • Experience in Zemax is advantageous.
  • Experienced with Python or similar is advantageous.

Qualifications/Experience:
Master or PhD degree in physics, optical engineering or similar. Prior exposure to optical lab work with optical components and fabrication processes. Experience of working in a team.

Work Environment
Ability to work in the office up to 5 days per week. Willingness and ability to travel occasionally is essential. Due to the global scope of some projects involving several time zones, the ability to accommodate meetings outside of typical daily work hours from time to time is required. This is a high growth, fast-paced, small organisation. The ability to be productive and successful in a dynamic environment is critical.
