We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Midlands R&D Incentives team as an R&D Incentives Consultant. With true flexibility, you can choose to work from either of our Midlands offices or from home. Our R&D team brings together the cohesion of a close-knit group with the capability of a 35‑strong, high‑performing consultancy. We actively support one another and share a commitment to building something that endures. Our strength lies in the breadth and depth of our expertise - spanning engineering, biotechnology, chemistry, and IT, alongside more unconventional perspectives (including even an astrophysicist). We support our clients through R&D tax incentives and Patent Box relief as well as through working with an ecosystem of advisors such as grants providers, patent attorneys and PE houses.

A day in the life of an Innovation Consultant includes:

  • Supporting R&D “Delivery Leads” Managers on claims, performing tasks in a timely and diligent manner
  • Taking notes in workshops with clients, capturing actions and contributing to the conversation
  • Drafting R&D reports and technical project descriptions
  • Undertaking costing calculations
  • Seeking opportunities to support senior members of the team on practice development initiatives

Through this role you will develop your core soft skills including:

  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Project management skills, particularly workload planning, prioritisation, risk identification and managing actions
  • Excel skills including being proficient with lookups and pivot tables
  • Resilience – develop your personal resilience, build techniques to manage stress and your own emotional wellbeing
  • Personal profile – build your LinkedIn profile and presence

As an R&D Consultant, you will need to have an analytical outlook with a process driven mindset. You will need to have great oral and written skills which you are keen to develop, and you will be able to prioritise your workload well. Key experience includes:

  • Experience in R&D tax claims from both a technical and financial perspective
  • Ideally, you will have R&D experience within an accountancy practice or have worked in one of our relevant industries (i.e. in engineering/manufacturing)
  • Ideally, have a degree in a technical field, like engineering
  • Be technically minded
