We are seeking a talented and commercially minded Tax Consultant to join a dynamic and growing upstream energy business located in Aberdeen on a contract basis. This is a high-impact role supporting a diverse asset base within a company focused on delivering strong financial returns through resilience, yield, and growth. As part of a forward-thinking Tax team, you will play a key role in delivering robust tax reporting and compliance, while supporting strategic tax initiatives that optimise value and manage risk across the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly tax reporting for group purposes, including current and deferred tax calculations, journals, and shareholder reporting packs.
- Support annual statutory reporting, including tax disclosures, journals, and audit queries.
- Review tax account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and review Corporation Tax returns for submission to HMRC.
- Assist with HMRC enquiries and correspondence.
- Support the design and implementation of tax and finance controls, ensuring appropriate documentation and compliance.
- Contribute to transfer pricing reviews, including preparation and maintenance of supporting documentation.
- Assist with tax governance activities, including maintaining the Tax Risk Register and Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) requirements.
- Provide support on tax advisory projects, identifying opportunities to optimise the group’s tax position and mitigate risks.
Background & Experience
- Professionally qualified in tax or accounting (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent).
- Strong grounding in tax accounting and reporting, including group and statutory requirements.
- Proven experience in UK upstream oil & gas tax, particularly RFCT, SCT, and Energy Profits Levy (EPL).
- Experience in corporate tax compliance and reporting processes.
- Familiarity with SAP (desirable but not essential).
- Proactive mindset with a strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in a constantly evolving tax landscape.
