A client of mine, who are an established international manufacturer of high-performance industrial equipment. The business's solutions are trusted globally for their durability, engineering quality, and ability to enhance operational efficiency, output, and commercial performance. The business designs and supplies specialist machinery as well as associated systems, components, and long-term service support to customers across multiple regions.
We are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to support business growth across international markets. This position is suited to a technically minded sales professional ready to broaden their responsibilities and work more independently. You will manage customer engagement within your assigned territory, working closely with internal sales leadership and technical teams. While much of the role is self-directed, structured technical and commercial support will be provided from the head office.
Location
This role is based from an office in Cambridgeshire, with office attendance expected when not travelling.
Travel
Regular international travel is required. Trips may last up to two weeks. Travel can include weekends and may be arranged at short notice. Primary travel will be within Europe, with occasional visits to Asia. Assistance with trip planning will be provided, particularly during the onboarding period.
Key Responsibilities
- Visiting customers and prospective clients, often alongside regional partners or agents
- Responding to technical and commercial inquiries via phone and email
- Planning and coordinating international sales visits
- Building and maintaining product and market knowledge
- Representing the business at exhibitions and industry events
- Demonstrating and promoting new equipment and solutions
- Managing relationships with existing customers
- Preparing quotations and progressing opportunities through to order placement
- Supporting machine trials and demonstrations
- Maintaining accurate records within the CRM system
Training and Development
Comprehensive onboarding and role-specific training will be provided. The organisation encourages initiative and welcomes ideas that improve efficiency, processes, or customer experience.
Experience and Skills
- Experience in technical or industrial sales (minimum 3-5 years)
- Exposure to machinery, engineering, or manufacturing environments (advantageous but not mandatory)
- The ability to work independently and prioritise effectively
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A customer-focused mindset
- Excellent organisational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience using CRM systems (beneficial but not essential)
- A full, clean driving licence
- The ability to pass relevant background checks
