The Opportunity

Cooper Lomaz are partnering with a well established, high end manufacturing business in the Midlands, seeking an experienced Senior Cabinet Maker to join their skilled workshop team. Our client specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke furniture and interior joinery, delivering premium-quality pieces for a diverse portfolio of clients. Projects range from one-off handcrafted items to large-scale installations within luxury residential and heritage environments, spanning both traditional and contemporary styles. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled craftsperson who takes pride in precision, quality, and mentoring others within a collaborative workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from detailed technical drawings (both digital and paper-based).
  • Manufacture high-quality bespoke furniture and joinery to exacting standards.
  • Take a proactive approach to reviewing designs, materials, and construction methods to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Select and work with a wide range of materials including solid timbers, veneers, and engineered boards.
  • Incorporate secondary materials such as metals, glass, and specialist finishes into projects.
  • Operate a variety of woodworking machinery safely and effectively.
  • Assemble cabinetry using modern and traditional techniques, including advanced joinery methods.
  • Install and work with fittings such as hinges, runners, and specialist ironmongery.
  • Carry out veneering processes including preparation, jointing, and pressing.

Leadership & Team Responsibilities

  • Support the Workshop Manager in delivering production targets and deadlines.
  • Lead by example on the shop floor, setting high standards of workmanship.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members, sharing knowledge and developing their skills.
  • Take responsibility for training and developing apprentices on a day-to-day basis.
  • Contribute to a positive, productive, and well-organised working environment.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong background in cabinet making or fine joinery.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong design awareness.
  • Proven experience working on high-end bespoke furniture projects.
  • Competence across a wide range of woodworking machinery and hand tools.
  • Solid understanding of materials, finishes, and construction techniques.
  • Experience with veneering processes and specialist materials.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Effective communication and team leadership abilities.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Plan and organise workloads to meet production schedules.
  • Ensure all work meets both structural and aesthetic quality standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment to a high standard, including sharpening of edge tools.
  • Select appropriate fixtures, fittings, and specialist components for each project.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace.
  • Adhere to all health & safety regulations and best practices.
