At Cooper Lomaz, we’re working with a well-established and growing business within the Supply Chain & Distribution Sector who are looking to appoint an experienced HR & Health & Safety Manager to join their senior leadership team. This is a hands-on, operational role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a key role in driving people management, compliance, training, health & safety, and operational standards across the business.
The successful candidate will be a confident leader with strong HR experience, a proactive approach to Health & Safety, and the ability to influence and support teams at all levels.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will take ownership of the day-to-day HR and Health & Safety function across the business, ensuring operational teams are supported, compliant, trained, and motivated. Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing operational staff across recruitment, onboarding, training and retention
- Conducting disciplinary investigations and ensuring company procedures are followed correctly
- Delivering probation reviews and supporting employee development plans
- Identifying training needs and designing ongoing training programmes
- Managing incidents and accidents in line with company policy and legislation
- Monitoring timesheets, holidays and payroll-related administration
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, driver handbooks and Health & Safety procedures
- Supporting transport compliance across the wider business
- Managing company uniform and equipment stock levels
Health & Safety Responsibilities
You will also take the lead on promoting and embedding a strong Health & Safety culture throughout the business. Responsibilities will include:
- Implementing and maintaining Health & Safety, Fire Safety and First Aid procedures
- Ensuring risk assessments are current, visible and signed by employees
- Promoting best practice and legislative compliance across all operational areas
- Supporting management teams with ownership of Health & Safety processes
- Reviewing operational activities from a Health & Safety perspective and identifying improvements
- Ensuring the business meets its duty of care obligations at all times
Additional Responsibilities
As part of the senior management team, you will also support the wider day-to-day running of the business and contribute towards future growth initiatives, including:
- Supporting operational leadership across the organisation
- Designing, marketing and delivering external training services
- Helping to grow and expand the training side of the business
What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience in an HR, Operations or Health & Safety management role
- Strong people management and leadership skills
- Experience managing disciplinary processes and employee relations matters
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of current legislation within transport, logistics or operational environments
- Experience delivering training programmes and inductions
- A proactive, hands-on and solutions-focused approach
Desirable Experience
- Previous line management or supervisory experience
- Experience working within transport, logistics or operational businesses
- Experience designing and delivering driver induction or training programmes
- At least 2 years’ experience within a similar managerial role
