The Opportunity
Are you an engineering or technically minded person looking for your next step?
This could be a great opportunity to join an established and highly technical business where you can develop a career rather than simply take another job.
We're looking for an Applications / Engineering Technician to join our team.
This role would suit someone at the beginning of their career — perhaps in their second or third job — or someone with an engineering, manufacturing or technical background who is looking for a local role with plenty of variety.
Full training will be provided, so we're more interested in your technical ability, attitude and willingness to learn than having previous experience with our specific equipment.
What will you actually be doing?
At its heart, this is a role about showing customers what our clients cutting technology can do.
You'll work alongside the sales team, using our cutting-edge cutting equipment and software to demonstrate how it can solve real customer requirements.
Your day could include
- Setting up and running machine demonstrations for customers.
- Carrying out test cuts using customer materials to determine the best machine, tooling, blades and settings.
- Working with customers to understand what they are trying to achieve and finding the best technical solution.
- Demonstrating equipment and software both face-to-face and remotely.
- Preparing samples and test results for customers.
- Providing technical support to the sales team during the sales process.
- Speaking with customers about technical applications, materials and machine settings.
- Keeping the demonstration area, machinery and materials organised and ready for customers.
- Supporting exhibitions, trade shows and open days.
- Helping train colleagues on the operation and capabilities of the equipment.
- Supporting the marketing team with technical content, samples and case studies.
You'll also have the opportunity to develop your understanding of the products, applications and wider business as you progress.
Who are we looking for?
You don't need to have done this job before.
We'd ideally like someone with an engineering, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical or technical background, but we're equally interested in people who can demonstrate strong practical and technical ability.
You might currently be
- An Engineering Apprentice or recently qualified Engineer.
- An Engineering Technician.
- A Junior Engineer looking for their next step.
- Working in manufacturing or production and looking to develop.
- A technical support or service professional.
- Someone in their second or third job who wants more responsibility.
- An experienced hands-on person looking to move into a more customer-facing technical role.
Most importantly, you'll need to be curious, practical and confident enough to work with customers.
You'll be someone who enjoys understanding how things work, solving problems and explaining technical information to others.
- What you'll need
- A genuine interest in engineering, machinery, technology or manufacturing.
- Good problem-solving and practical skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with customers.
- The ability to learn new machinery and software quickly.
- A proactive approach and willingness to get involved.
- Good organisational skills.
Previous experience with cutting equipment isn't essential — full training will be provided.
Where could this role take you?
One of the really attractive things about this position is that it can be a springboard into other areas of the business.
- Previous people in the role have progressed internally into areas including:
- Sales | Leadership | Field Service | Technical Applications
So if you're ambitious and want to build a career, there is genuine scope to develop your skills and move into other parts of the organisation over time.
You could start by learning the technology, become an expert in its applications and then decide where you want your career to go.
Why join?
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants a technical role without being stuck behind a desk all day.
You'll be working with impressive technology, dealing directly with customers, supporting sales and solving real technical problems — with the training and support to develop your skills along the way.
If you're technically minded, enjoy working with people and want a role where you can learn, develop and progress, we'd love to hear from you
