Job Responsibilities

  • Interpreting requirements, effectively planning and delivering all elements of railway de-vegetation works.
  • Completing all works to high and safe standards, adhering to internal procedures and industry standards.
  • Effectively and safely supervising a small team in de-vegetation works, completing Risk Assessments and Team Briefings.
  • Operating all plant, tools and equipment necessary to complete work ensuring a high standard of equipment care (i.e. ensure pre-user checks completed, defects escalated and recorded, etc).
  • Safe removal/clearance of vegetation as per contract requirements – carrying out accurate tree identification and ensuring work sites are left tidy.
  • Responding sensitively and appropriately to queries from lineside residents.
  • Observing and following all applicable safe methods of working, and health, safety and environmental rules/procedures.
  • Reporting any incidents or Close Calls immediately to the appropriate person.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recent experience working as an operative in vegetation clearance (within the Railway sector/environment).
  • Proficiency/skill in climbing/working at height.
  • Competencies including PTS, COSS, Chainsaw, Aerial Rescue, Lead Climber, Chainsaw from Rope & Harness.
  • Understanding of leading/coaching/mentoring and developing a team.

  • Confidence working with various tools and a good working knowledge of health and safety practices.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking pride in completing tasks to a high standard.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Methodical approach to problem‑solving with excellent attention to detail.
  • The role can be physically demanding – you will be required to work outside, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer.
