Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

  • Purpose

Our busy, large-scale operations run around the clock, with a wide variety of production equipment, automated systems, and site services plant in constant use to help us create and deliver our remarkable food.

As part of the Engineering Team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our operations running smoothly, providing fast and effective breakdown response, repairs, and support for planned maintenance activities.

Based primarily at our Frozen Logistics Distribution Centre, you will work as part of a wider Engineering Team responsible for supporting both logistics and manufacturing sites, providing flexibility and engineering expertise wherever it is needed across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • This position involves working in a frozen warehouse environment where temperatures are maintained at approximately -18°C though to ambient
  • Work safely and compliantly, following the company’s Culture of Care safety standards, and Values.
  • Work in accordance with food safety, hygiene, and quality standards, ensuring engineering activities support product integrity.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns using fault finding skills to identify corrective actions, ensuring effective repairs to reduce downtime and prevent repeat failures.
  • Carry out physical and visual checks of on-site equipment and deliver a programme of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdown information, and corrective actions using the company's maintenance systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, performance, and efficiency, contributing ideas and supporting continuous improvement activities.
  • Support Production teams by addressing equipment and machinery issues, maintaining close working relationships with Engineering and Production Team Members.
  • Liaise with third-party Contractors when required, ensuring works are completed to the relevant standard and in line with company Health & Safety policies.
  • Provide clear communication and updates to the Engineering Team and Engineering Managers.
  • Take a flexible approach to supporting a 24-hour operation, including participation in the call-out process
  • Support the wider Engineering and Operations teams with other reasonable tasks that fall within the scope of the role
  • Personally demonstrate safe behaviour at all times, working in full compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with Kitchen Teams to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Knowledge & Experience
  • Multi-skilled engineer with a recognised engineering qualification with electrical or mechanical bias, supported by strong cross-discipline skills.
  • Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ, National Certificate, or City & Guilds.
  • Practical electrical and mechanical engineering skills, ideally gained within food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. (Knowledge of HACCP & Food Safety is desirable.)
  • Hands-on experience across a range of equipment, such as: Refrigeration and steam generation systems
  • General site services and utilities plant
  • Food production and packaging machinery
  • Good understanding of Safe Systems of Work
  • Ability to follow processes, procedures, and maintenance plans effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with working knowledge of IT systems.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
